A veteran reflects on the enduring legacy of the historic HMS Belfast
In short: Ron Yardley recounts his service aboard HMS Belfast during the Korean War. This video captures his personal connection to the vessel, from navigating its complex interior to witnessing its arrival in London, illustrating how a single ship can anchor the memories of multiple generations.
Ron Yardley served on HMS Belfast as the ship prepared for global deployment to the Korean War. He describes the vessel as a labyrinth of ladders and corridors, noting the immense power of the forward guns during combat operations.
The ship remains significant to Yardley, who was present for its arrival in the Pool of London in 1971. Beyond his own service, the vessel has become a site for his family's own stories, bridging the gap between his wartime experiences and the lives of a new generation.
