A rare chance to view the unbound pages of a medieval masterpiece

The Art of Illumination: The Limbourg Brothers and the Belles Heures of Jean de France, Duc de Berry · 11:08 · Video: The Met · Watch at the source

In short: Discover the Belles Heures, one of America's most lavishly illustrated manuscripts. This exhibition offers a unique opportunity to see the work's individual illuminated leaves, currently displayed unbound.

Created between 1405 and 1408/9, the Belles Heures was commissioned by Jean de France, duc de Berry. The exhibition explores the artistry of the Limbourg Brothers, young Franco-Netherlandish illuminators, and places their work within the courtly milieu of the Valois royal family.

By displaying the manuscript's pages as individual leaves, the exhibition provides a perspective on the craftsmanship of the early fifteenth century alongside other precious objects from the duc's patronage.
