The three distinct eras that shaped the modern Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
In short: Tracing the lineage of a nation requires looking past its current borders to understand its dynastic cycles. This video explores the rise and fall of the first two Saudi states before the birth of the modern kingdom.
The history of the region is defined by three distinct periods of Saudi rule. Following the collapse of the Emirate of Diriyah in 1818, the second state—the Emirate of Nejd—was established in 1824 and endured until its fall to the Rashidun tribe in 1891.
The third Saudi state began in 1902 under Abdulaziz. This era transformed the region into a global power following the discovery of significant oil reserves in 1938.
