How prime numbers secure our credit cards and national defence
In short: Mathematics is far more than abstract theory; it is the invisible architecture of modern life. This lecture explores the essential mathematical principles that underpin everything from weather forecasting to aviation.
In this lecture marking their new book, Robin Wilson and Raymond Flood examine the profound impact of mathematical contributions on the world. They explore how the unique properties of prime numbers are fundamental to securing credit card transactions and national defence systems. The discussion also covers the mathematical foundations required to analyse data, predict weather patterns, and ensure the safety of flight.
