Why embracing uncertainty is the most powerful tool for genuine discovery
In short: In an era obsessed with instant answers and rigid certainty, scientist Harini Bhat argues that curiosity is more valuable than credentials. This talk explores how prioritizing the question 'Why?' over having all the answers can transform our relationship with science and the world around us.
Harini Bhat, a scientist and storyteller, demonstrates that science is not an exclusive domain for experts but a pursuit open to anyone driven by wonder. By focusing on the thrill of the unknown, she built a highly successful YouTube channel that explores diverse topics, ranging from the origins of life to the bizarre phenomenon of ancient brains being transformed into glass.
Recorded at TEDNext 2025 on November 10, 2025, the talk serves as a reminder that our cultural fixation on 'hot takes' often stifles the deeper, more rewarding process of inquiry. Bhat suggests that by celebrating the power of not knowing, we can reclaim curiosity as the primary engine for learning and discovery.
