Why scientists struggle to pinpoint the exact location of an atom's electrons

The uncertain location of electrons - George Zaidan and Charles Morton · 3:47 · Video: TED-Ed · Watch at the source

In short: Atoms are composed of protons, neutrons, and electrons, but while protons define an atom's identity, electrons remain elusive. This video explains how scientists attempt to predict the location of these fast-moving particles outside the atomic nucleus.

While protons and neutrons reside within the nucleus, electrons exist in the space surrounding it. Their behavior is notoriously difficult to track, leaving scientists to rely on educated guesses rather than precise coordinates to determine where these particles might be at any given moment.
