Understanding voltage as the landscape of electric potential energy

Voltage (electric potential difference) | Physics | Khan Academy · 12:47 · Video: Khan Academy · Watch at the source

In short: This video explains what voltage actually is by looking at it through the lens of energy. Rather than just a number on a battery, it describes how potential energy changes across space.

Voltage, or electric potential difference, measures the amount of potential energy per unit charge between two specific points. It is quantified in volts (V), which is equivalent to joules per coulomb (J/C).

The concept relies on a gradient: points with higher potential are designated as positive (+), while those with lower potential are negative (-). If the potential at two locations is identical, the voltage between them remains zero.
