Does the colorful tape worn by Olympic athletes actually provide any physical benefit?

Why Do Olympians Wear Colored Tape? · 10:44 · Video: Today I Found Out · Watch at the source

In short: You have likely seen athletes covered in bright, elastic strips during competition. This video examines the origins of Kinesio Tex Tape and investigates whether there is any scientific evidence to support the performance claims made by its proponents.

Developed in the 1970s by Japanese chiropractic and acupuncture specialist Kenzo Kase, the product consists of an elastic cotton strip featuring a heat-activated acrylic adhesive. While it has become a common sight in professional sports, its efficacy remains unproven.

To date, no reputable research has conclusively demonstrated that the tape performs any of the functions claimed by its manufacturers or the athletes who use it. Even industry representatives, such as Kevin Anderson of Kinesio UK, acknowledge that further study is required to validate the positive results reported by users.
