How to experience weightlessness without ever leaving Earth's atmosphere
In short: Step inside a 360-degree view of a parabolic flight. This video captures the intense, short bursts of zero gravity experienced as a plane plunges toward the ground.
Often nicknamed the 'vomit comet,' these parabolic flights serve as a vital training ground for astronauts preparing for space travel. Through a 3/60 camera, you can move the footage in real time to witness the sensation of weightlessness firsthand.
This footage was captured as part of 'A Place Called Space,' the 2015 Royal Institution advent calendar, which explored the human and cultural dimensions of space exploration through scientific expertise and creative artistry.
