From a jail-issued medical form to a Gold-certified debut album
In short: Xavier Landum’s path to the charts was forged in solitary confinement. After his collegiate football dreams collapsed, he turned to the streets, eventually penning his first lyrics on a medical form while locked away. Today, he is a Gold-certified artist balancing a high-profile music career with fatherhood.
BigXthaPlug's musical identity is rooted in a volatile upbringing in Dallas, Texas. Growing up in a high-risk environment, he was exposed to a wide range of influences, from the Isley Brothers and UGK to contemporary icons like Drake and Lil Wayne. This eclectic foundation shaped a rapper who would eventually navigate the transition from street life to the mainstream music industry.
His trajectory was marked by significant setbacks. After being expelled from Crown College in Minnesota for drug-related offenses, Landum faced a series of arrests for aggravated robbery and other crimes. A pivotal moment occurred when he was incarcerated and missed his son's first birthday. It was during this period of isolation that he began writing his first raps on a jail-issued medical form, using the medium as an outlet for boredom and frustration.
Following his release, Landum used money from street hustles to fund his studio time, leading to his first mixtape. His professional breakthrough came in February 2023 with the release of his debut album, Amar, named after his son. The album's success was bolstered by the single 'Texas,' which received a Gold certification from the RIAA. In 2023, he expanded his reach by launching 600 Entertainment and touring across the country.
Despite his commercial success, Landum's life remains intertwined with legal challenges. His career has been punctuated by repeated arrests for weapons and drug possession. Most recently, in August 2026, he faced new charges in Allen, Texas, just one day before a scheduled performance at the Iowa State Fair. His narrative is one of extreme duality: a public figure who advocates for autism acceptance while navigating a cycle of incarceration and artistic triumph.
