In short: Born in Tbilisi, Lela Tsurtsumia evolved from a child prodigy into a cultural icon who redefined the Georgian music industry. By pioneering large-scale show concerts and achieving unprecedented album sales, she bridged local traditions with international appeal, leaving an indelible mark on the nation's contemporary artistic identity and stage production standards.

Lela Tsurtsumia, born in Tbilisi on 12 February 1969, began her formal vocal training at the age of five. After graduating from the Shota Rustaveli Theatre and Film University, she developed a versatile repertoire that spans Georgian, Megrelian, and Laz languages. Her early professional career included a stint with the ensemble Taigouli between 1996 and 1999, a period during which she also performed at the Europa restaurant, where she encountered her future spouse and professional manager, Kakha Mamulashvili.

The turn of the millennium marked a significant shift in Tsurtsumia's career and the Georgian music scene. In 2000, she staged a concert that stood as the first true show concert ever held by a local artist in Georgia. This momentum continued into 2002, when she performed at the Tbilisi Sports Palace before an audience exceeding 25,000 people. Her commercial success reached new heights in 2003 with the release of the album Suleli Tsvima, or Stupid Rain, which achieved sales of over 60,000 units within the country.

Tsurtsumia's influence extended beyond domestic borders, with album releases in the United States and Israel. In 2006, she demonstrated her musical range by performing with a live jazz band, drawing a crowd of more than 40,000 spectators for a concert in Zugdidi. That same year, she released the work Tsamebs Shentvis Vinakhav. By 2007, she had secured a contract with the label Art Lend, facilitating the distribution of her music through international digital platforms like The Orchard, further cementing her status as a globally accessible Georgian artist.
