In short: Formed in 2000 as Peterpan, this Indonesian rock powerhouse redefined the country's music scene. Despite internal shifts, a high-profile name change to Noah in 2012, and a temporary hiatus, the band has sold over 9 million albums, securing their place as a dominant force in Southeast Asian popular music.

The band originated in Bandung, Indonesia, founded on September 1, 2000, as Peterpan. Initially playing in local cafés, their breakthrough came with the 2002 compilation album Kisah 2002 Malam. Their debut studio album, Taman Langit (2003), achieved massive success, selling over 650,000 copies. The band's second album, Bintang di Surga (2004), became a cultural phenomenon, selling over 3.2 million copies in Indonesia and earning 6× platinum status in Malaysia. By 2005, they were recognized as a leading group, winning multiple awards at the Indonesian Music Awards (AMI) and MTV Asia Aid.

Internal friction led to the departure of keyboardist Andika and bassist Indra in 2006, followed by the release of their third album, Hari yang Cerah, in 2007. In 2009, the band retired the Peterpan name. A planned 2010 announcement for a new identity was stalled by the arrest of lead vocalist Ariel. Upon his release in 2012, the group rebranded as Noah. Their first album under this name, Seperti Seharusnya, sold over a million copies, proving their enduring popularity. The band continued to evolve, collaborating with producer Steve Lillywhite for the 2014 album Second Chance and navigating the departures of drummer Reza in 2015 and guitarist Uki in 2019.

Noah's legacy is defined by their commercial dominance and record-breaking feats. They hold multiple Indonesian World Records Museum (MURI) honors, including a 2004 record for performing in six cities within 24 hours and a 2012 record for a five-country concert tour. As of 2020, they remain the best-selling alternative pop/rock band in Indonesia. Their albums Bintang di Surga, Seperti Seharusnya, and the soundtrack for the film Alexandria are consistently ranked among the country's all-time best-sellers. The band entered a hiatus beginning on New Year 2024, leaving behind a profound impact on the landscape of Indonesian popular music.
