In a world of mutant demons, a lone rooster seeks vengeance.
In short: Imagine a Japan plagued by demons born from human trauma. In this landscape, a migratory bird named Keiji wanders the cities, hunting the specific entity responsible for his sister's death. It is a high-stakes odyssey of avian justice and emotional weight.
The narrative of Rooster Fighter centers on the emergence of mutant demons in Japan, a phenomenon that began three years ago. These creatures are not random monsters; they are manifestations of extreme emotional distress or unresolved human trauma. As these demons evolved to become more intelligent and dangerous, they began to wreak havoc across the country. This biological and psychological origin provides a somber backdrop for the action, suggesting that the monsters are physical echoes of human suffering.
Keiji, a self-described migratory bird, serves as the series' primary protagonist. He operates under a strict code of conduct regarding respect and appreciation, despite his disdain for disrespectful youngsters. His primary objective is the destruction of the "White Demon," a giant four-horned mutant responsible for the death of his sister, Sara. Keiji utilizes a unique "Cock-a-doodle-doo" ability that induces resonance, allowing him to strike with great aim when throwing items with his beak.
The journey is joined by a diverse cast of companions, including Elizabeth, a tech-savvy hen who initially sought revenge on Keiji before joining his cause, and Piyoko, a chick who remains in her juvenile form despite traveling for months. The series also explores complex dynamics, such as the inclusion of Morio, a friendly demon manifested by a man with terminal cancer who was abandoned due to a misdiagnosis. These interactions highlight the manga's focus on companionship amidst a desolate, demon-infested landscape.
Since its debut on the Comiplex website in December 2020, the series has gained significant international traction, particularly in Spanish-speaking regions like Mexico and Spain. While some critics have noted the story's predictability, the series is frequently praised for its high-quality art and serious fight choreography. The anime adaptation, produced by Sanzigen and Viz Media Hero's, further solidified its reach, leading to prestigious nominations at the 6th Astra TV Awards in 2026.
