Can an octopus learn to recognize the faces of its human companions?
In short: This video explores the extraordinary bond between a professor and an octopus named Heidi. You will see how this intelligent creature can solve puzzles, watch television, and distinguish between different individual humans.
The episode follows Professor David Scheel and his daughter Laurel as they form a unique connection with Heidi, an octopus living in their home. Beyond this domestic relationship, the film showcases diverse cephalopod behaviors, such as the day octopus's ability to instantly alter its color and texture, and the coconut octopus's habit of using shells for protection. These observations highlight the complex neurological and physiological makeup of these animals, which possess nine brains, three hearts, and blue blood.
