The high-stakes game of hide and seek in the Rockies
In short: In the mountains, survival often depends on what a predator cannot smell. This footage captures a deer calf's desperate gamble against grizzly bears in one of Earth's most secluded wildernesses.
Mountain ranges cover 25 percent of our planet, yet they remain largely hidden from the general public. In these high-altitude environments, life is defined by extreme pressures and unique evolutionary defenses.
In the Rockies, grizzly bears kill approximately one-third of all newborn calves. To survive, these calves are born with little to no scent, forcing predators to rely on visual hunting rather than tracking. This creates a tense dynamic where the calf must remain perfectly concealed within the brush.
