Beyond the pasture: the hidden sensory world of the domestic cow
In short: Cows possess remarkable sensory capabilities that allow them to perceive their environment in ways humans often overlook. This video explores how these animals detect atmospheric changes and emotional cues, revealing the complex behaviors that define their daily lives.
Cows exhibit a sophisticated awareness of their surroundings, including the ability to sense impending weather shifts by lying down before a storm. Their olfactory sensitivity is equally impressive, as they can detect signs of stress from kilometres away.
The footage also highlights the social and cognitive nature of these animals, exemplified by Coffee, the matriarch of her herd, who demonstrates a unique response to live music. This insight into bovine behavior is drawn from the 2018 series Secret Life of Farm Animals.
