The secrets of the land of immortals
In short: Photographer Jose Jeuland travels to Okinawa, Japan, to document the lives of its centenarians. This visual documentary explores what makes this region a global outlier for human longevity.
Okinawa is often referred to as the 'land of immortals' due to its high population of centenarians who live significantly longer than the average person. Inspired by an article read over a decade ago, photographer Jose Jeuland spent years capturing the stories of residents aged between 89 and 106.
The project features carefully directed portraits in both color and monochrome, specifically highlighting hands as a medium to tell the 'tale of time.' Unlike typical action photography, these images focus on emotional connection and the specific secrets behind the inhabitants' long lives.
