Why do Dawson's Burrowing Bees engage in a lethal mating frenzy every spring?
In short: Witness the intense and often fatal reproductive behavior of Dawson's Burrowing Bees. This footage captures the harsh reality of natural instincts as hundreds of males swarm a single female, providing a rare look at one of nature's most aggressive mating rituals.
Each spring, Dawson's Burrowing Bees participate in a violent mating event. During this process, hundreds of male bees converge on a lone female, creating a chaotic swarm that frequently results in the death of the female bee.
This behavior serves as a stark example of the extreme pressures inherent in natural selection, where the drive to reproduce can override the survival of the individual. The footage offers a glimpse into the brutal side of biological imperatives that often go unseen in the wild.
