Not every penguin is built for the Antarctic ice
In short: While many associate penguins with freezing polar landscapes, some species thrive in much warmer climates. This video follows the dedicated work of SANCCOB, a South African rehabilitation center that rescues and hand-rears these seabirds for release.
Research Manager Dr. Katta Ludynia explains how SANCCOB operates as a specialized seabird rehabilitation facility in South Africa. The team intervenes to save both eggs and chicks, providing intensive care including hand-rearing for young birds until they are physically prepared to return to their natural habitats.
The footage highlights the logistical and emotional effort required to preserve these populations in warmer environments, showcasing the transition from human care back to wild independence.
