Can local rangers transform the reputation of the elusive snow leopard in Spiti Valley?
In short: In the Spiti Valley, snow leopards were once feared as dangerous threats. Today, dedicated local rangers are working to shift this perspective, highlighting the vital role these big cats play in maintaining the health of their high-altitude ecosystem.
The snow leopard, often called the ghost of the mountains, has long been misunderstood by the human communities sharing its habitat. In Spiti Valley, the narrative is shifting from conflict to conservation as local rangers actively protect the species.
By demonstrating the ecological importance of these predators, these guardians are proving that the survival of the snow leopard is essential for a balanced environment. This effort reflects a broader commitment to preserving natural wonders, a mission central to the legacy of BBC Earth's natural history storytelling.
