Survival on the edge of a thawing wilderness
In short: As North American winters begin to shift, mountain men face a grueling seasonal transition. This video explores the intense demands of homesteading in a changing climate and the rigorous training required for sled dogs to navigate these volatile environments.
The footage captures the transition from winter to spring in the mountains, where thawing ice leads to swollen rivers and raging runoff. For mountain men, this period is a critical window to stockpile supplies, cultivate food, and fortify homesteads against an increasingly unpredictable wilderness.
Central to this survival strategy is the mastery of independence and living off the land. The video highlights the 'B team' of sled dogs undergoing graduation tests to ensure they possess the stamina and skill necessary to endure America's harshest conditions.
