How a community of 1,200 people halted global oil giants
In short: The Sarayaku people of the Ecuadorian Amazon have successfully defended their ancestral lands against powerful resource extraction companies. This documentary explores their victory and provides a blueprint for global climate activism.
The film follows local champion Eriberto Gualinga as he documents the environmental and cultural devastation caused by oil drilling in indigenous territories. It highlights how the Sarayaku community united to reject industrial development and protect the rainforest.
By successfully resisting these corporations, the Sarayaku have created a model for how indigenous groups can organize to defend their sovereignty and the environment on a global scale.
