How traditional orchards act as vital oases for biodiversity
In short: In an increasingly industrial agricultural landscape, traditional orchards serve as much more than just food sources. This documentary explores how these manmade habitats create a multi-layered sanctuary for diverse wildlife.
The film examines the role of traditional orchards as natural havens. These landscapes feature blossoming fruit trees, colourful meadows, and a variety of fruit such as apples, pears, cherries, and walnuts. This ecosystem supports a complex hierarchy of life, where the tall trunks of fruit trees provide an upper storey for nesting and hiding.
Beyond providing food, these orchards sustain rare grasses and herbs, which in turn attract a wide array of species, including bees, butterflies, foxes, and the common redstart.
