The hunt for Europe's most elusive big cat is nearing its end
In short: In the remote Hirkan Mountains of Azerbaijan, a team of experts set out to find a predator so rare it was considered nearly mythical. This documentary tracks their journey to capture the first photographic evidence of the Caucasian leopard.
Photographer Adrian Steirn led an eclectic expedition featuring an African tracker, Russian scientist Dr. Victor Lukarevsky, and a local expert known as the "leopard man." They navigated extreme weather and inhospitable terrain in Azerbaijan's Hirkan National Park to deploy camera traps.
High-quality photographs of multiple leopards, featuring a mother and her offspring, were obtained by the expedition. This achievement greatly aided preservation work, resulting in an inaugural Caucasian Leopard Summit where global actors started enacting safeguarding policies.
