The shifting lines of power: how empires redrew the world map
In short: Explore the evolution of global borders through a journey of thousands of years. This documentary traces how human ambition, conflict, and exploration have physically reshaped the geography of our planet.
The video examines the historical forces that have dictated the rise and fall of empires, from the ancient civilizations of Egypt, Mesopotamia, Greece, and Rome to the vast reaches of the Mongol and Islamic empires. It contextualizes the modern world by looking back at the eras of European colonization and the subsequent independence movements that defined contemporary nations.
By analyzing key turning points like the World Wars, the Cold War, and the collapse of the Soviet Union, the documentary illustrates how migrations and wars are not just events, but the primary architects of our current political landscape.
