The daughter of Batman and Catwoman who became a vigilante
In short: Born into wealth but trained for war, Helena Wayne inherited her parents' legacies in the most complicated way possible. As the Huntress, she navigates the shadow of a criminal mother and a legendary father, balancing a legal career with a secret life of street-level justice.
Helena Wayne first appeared in 1977 as the daughter of Batman and Catwoman from the 'Earth-Two' universe. Unlike many heroes who choose their path, Helena’s origin is rooted in tragedy: she was trained by her parents to be a super-athlete and grew up knowing her father's secret identity. After her mother, Selina Kyle, was killed in 1976 while being blackmailed into resuming her role as Catwoman, Helena took matters into her own hands. She fashioned weapons from her parents' equipment—including her signature crossbow—to bring the perpetrator to justice before adopting the mantle of Huntress.
The character’s history is a complex web of multiversal shifts. Following the 'Crisis on Infinite Earths' in 1986, she was erased from history and replaced by a non-related Helena Bertinelli. However, various reboots have restored her. In some iterations, she works as a lawyer for Cranston and Grayson while fighting street crime; in others, she is a refugee from a destroyed world who eventually succeeds her father as the new Batman on Earth-2.
Beyond the action, Helena's narrative explores the psychological weight of lineage. Despite loving her mother, she secretly feared following Catwoman’s criminal path and even sought therapy to deal with the trauma of her mother's actions. Her journey is defined by this duality: a woman seeking to honor her father's code while constantly grappling with the 'tragic road' of her family's legacy.
