The geometry of survival: how star-shaped fortresses redefined European warfare
In short: Explore the engineering genius behind France's 160 megastructure fortresses. This documentary reveals how one man's signature design created an iron belt of defense that protected territory for centuries.
The documentary examines the military strongholds of central Europe, specifically focusing on the work of the engineer Vauban. His signature trademark was the creation of star-shaped fortifications, a design that provided the resilience necessary to withstand repeated attacks during the 17th and 18th centuries.
By analyzing materials, shapes, and structural engineering, the film explains how these 160 fortresses remained solid and functional three centuries after their construction. It uses 3D animations and historical recreations to illustrate how these designs formed a protective iron belt for French territory.
