Can theater reform the minds of Italy's most dangerous criminals?
In short: Inside Rebibbia, Italy's largest high-security prison, a performance hall hosts inmates three times a week. This documentary explores how a unique theatrical program aims to transform those who have never stepped foot in a theater.
The initiative is led by Laura Andreini Salerno, who convinced mafia members, traffickers, and other convicts with lengthy sentences to leave their cells. The goal is for these inmates to collaborate on plays performed before both fellow prisoners and prison wardens.
This project serves as a social experiment in rehabilitation, testing whether the collaborative nature of theater can offer a path toward reform for those serving some of the toughest sentences in the country.
