How a skateboard magazine connection launched a Jackass legend
In short: Before becoming a household name through the chaotic Jackass series, Jason Acuña was a dedicated professional skateboarder. Born Jason Shannon Acuña on May 16, 1973, in Pisa, Italy, the performer was born while his father was stationed there with the U.S. Army. Growing up in Torrance, California, Acuña developed a career that spans multiple disciplines. He is a professional skateboarder and stunt performer who gained massive fame through the reality comedy series Jackass, which began in 2000. His nickname, 'Wee Man,' was bestowed upon him by Sal Rocco, the brother of World Industries CEO Steve Rocco.
Acuña's television career is marked by high-energy variety and reality shows. In addition to his work on Jackass, he hosted Fox Sports Net's skateboarding program, 54321. He has also appeared in reality competitions such as NBC's Celebrity Circus, where he made history by becoming the first contestant to achieve a perfect 10-point average score. He finished that season in third place. His versatility extends to acting, including a role in the 2007 series Armed and Famous and a 2012 starring role in the family-friendly holiday film Elf-Man.
Beyond the screen, Acuña has ventured into the food industry as an investor in the Chronic Tacos chain. His entrepreneurial efforts included a franchise in Redondo Beach, California, which he eventually closed permanently. In February 2018, he expanded his business interests by opening a new Chronic Tacos franchise in Long Beach, California. Having achondroplasia, a form of dwarfism, Acuña has navigated a career that blends extreme physical stunts with diverse media and business roles.
