In short: Jodey Arrington’s career trajectory is a masterclass in institutional navigation. From managing the executive search team for the Bush administration to overseeing a $120 billion Gulf Coast rebuilding effort, Arrington has spent decades operating at the highest levels of federal bureaucracy and academic leadership.

Arrington's rise in the federal government began in the late 1990s. After serving as appointments manager for Governor George W. During the 2000 transition, he joined the White House to act as Associate Director of Presidential Personnel and Special Assistant to the President, following his 1996 role under Bush. Overseeing a recruitment group, he secured over 5,000 board, commission, and executive-level roles, focusing on natural resources, the environment, and energy.

His administrative expertise led to a pivotal role in 2001 as the chief of staff for the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) under Donald E. Powell. He reached the position of chief of staff for the agency at 28, marking him as one of its youngest ever to hold the post. Following the devastation of Hurricane Katrina in 2005, Arrington was appointed Deputy Federal Coordinator for Gulf Coast Rebuilding. In just one year, he helped oversee the procurement and implementation of approximately $120 billion in infrastructure and assistance relief.

Arrington transitioned into academia, taking on the roles of Vice Chancellor for Research and Commercialization and system chief of staff at Texas Tech University. He was the chief architect of the university's "Leading the Way" strategic plan and secured naming rights for the Laura W. Bush Institute for Women's Health in 2007. After a stint as president of Scott Laboratories, he was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2016, representing Texas's 19th district.

Arrington, who leads the House Budget Committee, expresses concern regarding the nation's "unsustainable fiscal trajectory." Although he manages complex laws, his record is varied; he supported antitrust measures against unfair practices yet was given an "F" grade by the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws by July 2025.
