From the Prada boardroom to the dirt of world rallying
In short: Lorenzo Bertelli balances two vastly different worlds: high-fashion corporate leadership and the grueling, high-speed environment of international rally racing. While he oversees one of the world's most prestigious fashion houses, he also navigates the treacherous terrain of the World Rally Championship as a privateer competitor.
Born in 1988 to Miuccia Prada and Patrizio Bertelli, Lorenzo Bertelli occupies a unique position at the intersection of luxury commerce and extreme sport. Since May 2021, he served as Prada's executive director, overseeing positions such as Group Marketing Director, Head of Corporate Social Responsibility, and Head of Digital Communication. This professional background provides a stark contrast to his identity as a privateer rally driver.
Bertelli's racing career began in the World Rally Championship (WRC) during the 2011 season at the Rally d'Italia Sardegna. He quickly progressed through the ranks, securing his first victory in the WRC-2 category at the 2014 Rally Sardegna driving a Ford Fiesta RRC. That same year, he earned four podiums to finish third in the championship. However, moving into the primary WRC class brought significant challenges, including a notable crash in Portugal in 2015 that led to a public dispute with organizers over safety protocols.
His competitive history is marked by both technical setbacks and personal milestones. After skipping the 2018 season, he returned to the M-Sport Ford WRT team in 2019. His most successful result to date came in 2022 during the Rally New Zealand, where he secured a 7th-place finish using the Ford Puma Rally1. This achievement earned him 6 points and placed him 25th in the overall championship standings.
Bertelli's trajectory illustrates a dual life of prestige and grit. Whether managing global brand identity or navigating gearbox failures in Argentina, his career reflects a commitment to high-stakes performance across two distinct industries.
