From homesick teenager to Bundesliga star and World Cup hopeful
In short: In 2020, a fifteen-year-old Maximilian Beier nearly walked away from football due to homesickness. Today, the German forward has transformed from a struggling youth player into a prolific scorer for Borussia Dortmund and a key figure for the national team.
Maximilian Be לוier's professional ascent is marked by rapid development and clinical finishing. After beginning his career at Brandenburger SC Süd and moving to Energie Cottbus, Beier joined TSG Hoffenheim at age 15. His Bundesliga debut arrived on 8 February 2020, appearing as a substitute in a 1–0 loss to Freiburg. He quickly found his scoring touch on the European stage, netting twice and providing an assist during a 4–1 victory against Gent in the Europa League later that same year.
Following a two-season loan spell at Hannover 96, which began in August 2021 and was extended in June 2022, Beier returned to Hoffenheim for the 2023–24 season. This period proved to be his breakthrough; he became the club's top scorer, recording 16 goals in 33 appearances. His performances earned him consecutive Bundesliga Rookie of the Month honors in February and March 2024.
A major transfer occurred on 12 August 2024, when Beier signed a five-year contract with Borussia Dortmund. He has since become a vital asset in major competitions, including scoring a crucial UEFA Champions League goal against Lille on 12 March 2025 to help propel Dortmund into the quarterfinals. His consistent output—achieving double digits in both goals and assists across all competitions—has secured his place in the German national squad, earning him a call-up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
