In short: In a sport dominated by Chinese athletes, Muslim Salikhov achieved a feat of singular distinction. By mastering Wushu Sanda, he broke through cultural and technical barriers to become one of the few outsiders to claim the prestigious King's Cup, eventually transitioning his elite striking into the global MMA arena.

Born in Buynaksk, Dagestan, Muslim Salikhov began his martial arts journey in 1995 at the Five Directions of the World school. His path led him to Wushu Sanda, a combat sport where he would eventually become one of its most decorated figures. Salikhov's rise was marked by significant milestones: he won the Sanshou championship at the 2004 European Wushu Championships in Moscow and secured his first World Championship in 2005.

The pinnacle of his Sanda career came in February 2006 during the first international 'King of Sanda' tournament in Chongqing. Salikhov became the first non-Chinese athlete to win this title, a feat shared only by Hossein Ojaghi. His dominance continued with subsequent world titles in 2007 and 2009, as well as becoming one of the few athletes to ever secure five gold medals at the World Wushu Championships.

Salikhov transitioned to professional MMA in 2011, eventually signing with the UFC in October 2017. He earned several 'Performance of the Night' accolades for victories over Nordine Taleb, André Fialho, Song Kenan, plus Carlos Leal Miranda, marking his high-impact career. Despite various setbacks—including a brief doping investigation cleared in 2019 and several fight cancellations due to health or logistical issues—he remains a prominent figure in both Sanda and the UFC Welterweight division.

His legacy is anchored in his ability to translate traditional Wushu striking into modern MMA. From his early days in Dagestan to competing on global stages like UFC Fight Night 288, Salikhov represents a unique bridge between specialized Chinese martial arts and the broader world of mixed martial arts.
