The Kazakh Nomad with a historic streak of finishes in the UFC
In short: Shavkat Rakhmonov is rewriting the record books in the UFC Welterweight division. Known as the "Nomad," the Kazakh fighter has achieved a feat unmatched by any other competitor in the division: a six-fight streak of finishes. From his roots in Uzbekistan to the global stage, his rise has been defined by clinical precision.
Born on October 23, 1994, in Shoʻrchi, Uzbekistan, to a Kazakh family, Rakhmonov’s path to professional mixed martial arts began in October 2014. Before entering the professional ranks, he established himself as a dominant amateur, winning WMMAA World and Asian Championships titles. At just 18 years old, he became a world champion for the World MMA Association in 2013.
Rakhmonov's professional career is characterized by a high finishing rate. In the UFC Welterweight division, he holds the record for the longest finish streak in history, with six consecutive fights ending in a stoppage. This streak includes diverse methods, such as a guillotine choke submission against Alex Oliveira in October 2020 and a rear-naked choke against Stephen Thompson in December 2023—the first time Thompson was finished by submission.
His ascent has not been without setbacks. He has faced multiple injury-related delays, including a scheduled bout against Belal Muhammad in December 2024 that was cancelled due to a bone infection, and a knee injury reported in January 2026 that was expected to sideline him for nine to ten months. Despite these hurdles, his technical prowess has earned him multiple honors, including two Performance of the Night awards and a Fight of the Night award for his March 2023 bout against Geoff Neal.
Beyond his fighting prowess, Rakhmonov carries a significant cultural legacy. He was the first Kazakh fighter to sign with the UFC. His lineage is rooted in the Altynbay clan of the Alimuly tribe of the Junior Zhuz, a detail that underscores the deep tribal roots from which the professional athlete emerged.
