Where was Nicolas Jackson actually born?
In short: While official profiles for Chelsea and Bayern Munich claim he was born in Djibonker, Senegal, several other sources suggest a different origin. The striker's true birthplace remains a point of uncertainty, caught between the borders of Senegal and The Gambia.
The exact birthplace of Senegalese striker Nicolas Jackson is a subject of conflicting reports. Although club records from Bayern Munich and Chelsea list Djibonker, Senegal, as his birthplace to a Senegalese mother and Gambian father, different accounts suggest he was born in Banjul, The Gambia. This uncertainty stems from varied documentation regarding his early years. His lineage remains a blend of these two West African nations.
His family's movement within the region is also noted; following the 2016 Gambian presidential election, the family relocated to Ziguinchor, Senegal, in 2017. This move preceded his rise through the ranks of African and Spanish football, starting with local side ASC Tilene and later joining the Senegal-based club Casa Sports during the 2018–19 season. This relocation occurred in the aftermath of the 2016 Gambian presidential election. He eventually began his footballing journey with the local team ASC Tilene.
Jackson's career has since taken him from the Spanish leagues with Villarreal to the Premier League with Chelsea and Aston Villa, and even a loan spell at Bundesliga club Bayern Munich. Despite the ambiguity of his origins, his international career has been firmly established with the Senegal national team, where he has competed in major tournaments including the FIFA World Cup and the Africa Cup of Nations. He has represented his country in several major international competitions. His professional journey includes stints in Spain and England.
