From Rosario to the Grammys: The rise of an Argentine icon
In short: Nicki Nicole didn't just enter the music scene; she broke through it with a historic first. By blending rap and pop, she became the first Argentine woman to top her home country's charts, eventually securing a major international nomination on the global stage.
Born in Rosario, Santa Fe, Nicole Denise Cucco began her musical journey as a middle-class student at Colegio Comunidad Educativa La Paz. Her ascent into the spotlight was catalyzed by strategic collaborations with high-profile producers like Bizarrap. In August 2019, their collaboration on 'Music Sessions' reached number three on the Billboard Argentina Hot 100, providing the momentum needed for her debut album, Recuerdos, in November of that same year.
Her commercial breakthrough arrived in 2020 with the single "Mamichula." This track made history as the first by an Argentine woman to reach number one on the Argentina Hot 100. The song's success was not limited to her home country; it also peaked at number one in Spain and earned a platinum certification there, establishing her as a cross-border powerhouse in the Música Urbana genre.
Nicole’s influence expanded through diverse media appearances and high-profile pivots. In April 2021, she became the first Argentine artist to perform on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Her discography reflects a sophisticated blend of genres, ranging from cumbia hits with Los Ángeles Azules to Latin pop collaborations with Aitana. This versatility culminated in her 2024 album Naiki receiving a Grammy nomination for Best Música Urbana Album at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards.
Beyond her musical achievements, Nicole's personal life has been subject to significant public attention, including a high-profile relationship with footballer Lamine Yamal. The couple confirmed their status in August 2025 and announced a mutual separation on October 31, 2025. These milestones underscore her position as a central figure in contemporary Argentine culture.
