In short: Patricky de Sousa Freire, known as Patricky Pitbull, has spent over a decade competing at the highest levels of mixed martial arts. From tournament finals to world championship bouts, his career reflects the brutal volatility of professional fighting, marked by significant victories, recurring injuries, and strategic shifts between major global promotions.

Born in 1986, the Brazilian fighter established himself early in the Bellator MMA promotion. His path was rarely linear, defined by a series of tournament appearances and high-profile rematches. In 2011, he reached the Bellator Season Four Lightweight Tournament final, only to be defeated by Michael Chandler. This rivalry would define much of his early tenure, culminating in a 2016 championship bout where he was knocked out in the first round.

The fighter's career is a study in resilience against physical setbacks. He has frequently navigated medical suspensions and injuries, including a 2013 withdrawal from a tournament and a 2022 injury that delayed his first title defense. Despite these hurdles, he reached the pinnacle of his division in November 2021 at Bellator 270, securing the Bellator Lightweight World Championship by defeating Peter Queally. This title was vacated by his brother, Patrício Pitbull, specifically to facilitate the championship opportunity.

His later career saw him transition between organizations, including participation in the Rizin Lightweight Grand Prix and a move to the PFL. The landscape of his professional life remained unpredictable; after requesting a release from his PFL contract in early 2025, he signed with the Global Fight League, only for that organization to cancel its events shortly thereafter. These shifts underscore the precarious nature of professional combat sports, where a fighter's trajectory is constantly influenced by promotion stability, medical clearance, and the outcome of single, high-stakes encounters.
