From Monaco's palaces to the Atlantic, the multifaceted life of Pierre Casiraghi
In short: Born into the heart of Monegasque royalty, Pierre Casiraghi has navigated a path far beyond the palace walls. From high-stakes business ventures and humanitarian missions to competitive sailing and professional racing, his life blends aristocratic heritage with a drive for diverse, hands-on achievement.
Pierre Casiraghi, born on 5 September 1987, is the youngest son of Princess Caroline of Hanover and Stefano Casiraghi. He is a member of the Monegasque royal line, being the grandson of Prince Rainier III and the American actress Grace Kelly. His position in the succession to the Monegasque throne is eighth, following his mother, his brother Andrea, and several cousins and nephews. He is the maternal-line grandson of Prince Pierre, Duke of Valentinois. His godparents are Prince Albert II and Laura Sabatini.
His early years were marked by significant transition. After his father died in a boating accident when Pierre was three, he lived at his mother's farmhouse in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence. Once his mother married Ernst August, Prince of Hanover, the household relocated to the Fontainebleau region by Paris. He later studied international economics and management at Bocconi University in Milan, gaining fluency in several languages including Italian and English.
Casiraghi has established himself in both business and philanthropy. He holds a majority stake in the Monaco-based construction firm Engeco and co-owns 70% of Monacair with his brother. His humanitarian efforts include accompanying his mother on a 2007 tour of Africa and sponsoring the 'Sail for a Cause' charity race through the Yacht Club de Monaco. He is also a competitive sailor, notably skippering the hydrofoil sailboat Team Malizia, which once transported Greta Thunberg across the Atlantic to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. He is also a participant in various sailboat racing competitions. In 2014, he was part of the Maserati team for the Cape2Rio event.
