From the runway to the pitch: the evolution of Romeo Beckham
In short: Born into a dynasty of global fame, Romeo Beckham has navigated a path that balances high-fashion prestige with the grueling reality of professional sports. While his name suggests a predetermined destiny, his journey reveals a complex transition between his father's athletic legacy and his own diverse interests.
Born in 2002 in Westminster, London, Romeo Beckham entered a world where his identity was inextricably linked to his parents, David and Victoria Beckham. While his brothers Brooklyn and Cruz also pursued football, all three were eventually released from the Arsenal youth system. This early departure from the family's primary sporting path allowed Romeo to explore different avenues, including fashion and tennis. Having become a public personality by 10, he represented Burberry's kids' collection before appearing on the Versace catwalk during Milan Fashion Week in 2025.
His sporting trajectory was non-linear. After being released by Arsenal in 2015, he pivoted to tennis training under the guidance of Andy Murray. It wasn't until 2020 that he announced a return to football after a five-year hiatus—a move so significant that his father replaced a tennis court at their family home with a dedicated football pitch. He eventually made his professional debut in September 2021 with Fort Lauderdale CF (now Inter Miami II), playing alongside Harvey Neville, the son of David's former teammate Phil Neville.
Romeo's career continued to evolve through a loan spell at Brentford B in early 2023. During this period, he scored a 93rd-minute winning goal in February 2023 and was part of the squad that won the 2022–23 Premier League Cup. Following the loan, he signed a permanent one-year contract with the club. Looking ahead, his career expansion continues into the arts, with a planned acting debut in the film Forty Love in June 2026.
