How S. Radha Krishna built a powerhouse of modern Telugu cinema in Hyderabad
In short: Suryadevara Radha Krishna, often called Chinna Babu, transformed Telugu film production through his company, Haarika & Hassine Creations. Since its 2012 founding in Hyderabad, the studio has become a major force, consistently delivering commercial hits and award-winning projects that have defined the landscape of contemporary regional Indian cinema.
S. Radha Krishna, an influential Indian film producer, began his career in 1988 with the film Aathmakatha. However, his most significant impact on the industry emerged decades later when he established Haarika & Hassine Creations in 2012. Based in Hyderabad, this production house quickly became a cornerstone of Telugu cinema, bolstered by a strategic and prolific partnership with director Trivikram Srinivas. This collaboration began with their debut production, Julayi, which starred Allu Arjun and achieved both critical acclaim and commercial success, eventually earning the Nandi Award for Best Popular Feature Film.
The studio's growth trajectory is marked by a series of high-profile releases that solidified its reputation. Following the success of Julayi, the company produced S/O Satyamurthy in 2015 and A Aa in 2016. By 2018, the firm expanded its output, producing two major films directed by Trivikram: Agnyaathavaasi and Aravinda Sametha Veera Raghava. The latter, featuring N. T. Rama Rao Jr. and Pooja Hegde, proved to be a blockbuster, collecting 195 crores at the worldwide box office and earning a nomination for the SIIMA Award for Best Film – Telugu.
The company's influence continued to climb with the 2020 release of Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo. Beyond his primary banner, Radha Krishna also operates a subsidiary, Sithara Entertainments. While he presents films for this label, his nephew, Suryadevara Naga Vamsi, manages the primary production duties. Today, the reach of these companies extends even to Hindi cinema, as evidenced by the production of Shehzada, the Hindi remake of Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo.
