The Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood began as a joint venture between the Seminole Tribe of Florida and Power Plant Entertainment, a firm led by David S. Cordish. Groundbreaking occurred in 2001, with an initial budget of $400 million. The project was designed to replace the tribe's existing bingo halls with a modern gaming destination. However, the development faced significant hurdles, including internal tribal leadership changes and a high-profile legal battle with Donald J. Trump, who alleged that his proprietary plans had been misappropriated. This litigation was eventually dismissed in 2010, following a settlement involving the sale of Trump Marina.

A pivotal moment in the resort's history arrived in 2006, when the Seminole Tribe acquired the global Hard Rock Cafe International brand from The Rank Group for $965 million. This move allowed the tribe to consolidate its operations under the Hard Rock International umbrella. The resort continued to expand, most notably with a $1.5 billion project that introduced the 35-story Guitar Hotel in 2019. This tower, standing 450 feet tall, features exterior LED lighting programmed to mimic guitar strings, creating a nightly spectacle that has become a landmark of the South Florida skyline.

Today, the resort spans 100 acres and includes a 140,000-square-foot casino, a 7,000-seat arena, and extensive retail and dining spaces. The property has navigated various challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic and complex contract negotiations with the State of Florida regarding gaming compacts. Despite these pressures, the site remains a major economic engine for the tribe, hosting events ranging from the Miss Universe competition to major poker tournaments. The Guitar Hotel design itself has been the subject of intense intellectual property scrutiny, with the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board granting protection to the building's shape in 2023, though it declined to trademark the light beams themselves.
