How a broadcast journalist built a multi-season daytime talk show from the ground up
In short: Launched in 2019, Tamron Hall has become a staple of daytime television, securing renewals through an eighth season. From its initial development in 2017 to navigating pandemic-era production shifts and a kitchen fire, the show has evolved into a resilient fixture across hundreds of markets in the United States and Canada.
The talk show, hosted by broadcast journalist and author Tamron Hall, debuted on September 9, 2019, following an agreement between Hall and Disney-ABC Domestic Television in August 2018. The program was designed to fill gaps in daytime schedules, replacing long-running series like Who Wants to Be a Millionaire on ABC-owned stations. By the time of its premiere, the show had secured coverage in 85% of the United States, reaching 47 of the top 50 television markets.
Production has faced several logistical challenges. In March 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic forced a temporary halt to studio operations, leading the show to pivot to remote recording from Hall's home. Later, in April 2024, a grease fire at the ABC Broadcast Center in Manhattan necessitated an evacuation and the cancellation of that day's episode. Despite these hurdles, the show has maintained consistent growth, with audience figures reaching an average of 1.2 million total viewers by the second season.
The show's leadership has seen multiple transitions. Early executive producers included Bill Geddie and Talia Parkinson-Jones, followed by Candi Carter. In 2022, Quiana Burns was named the permanent executive producer. As the series expanded, it moved from the ABC Broadcast Center to a new set at 7 Hudson Square, where it shares space with The View. Today, the program is broadcast across 206 markets, including appearances on Hearst Television and Bounce TV, and reaches international audiences via Canada's Global Television Network and the United States Armed Forces network.
The show's longevity is evidenced by its steady renewal cycle. Having celebrated its 1000th episode in March 2025, the series has already been greenlit for an eighth season as of March 2026. This trajectory highlights the show's ability to adapt its production environment and executive management while maintaining a broad, consistent viewership across diverse distribution platforms.
