In short: In East Jakarta, a sprawling 147-hectare park serves as a physical synopsis of Indonesia. Designed to foster national pride, the site features traditional architecture from every province, a massive lake containing a miniature archipelago, and a sophisticated water-and-drone show that illuminates the nation's diverse cultural folklore every single night.

Conceived by Siti Hartinah, the first lady of Indonesia, the project was launched in 1972 to encapsulate the nation's vast cultural diversity within a single recreational space. Inaugurated on 20 April 1975, the park was built on what was previously a stretch of farms and fields. The builders utilized the naturally hilly topography to create diverse landscapes that mirror the varied environments found across the Indonesian islands. Today, the park is operated by Injourney Destination Management, a subsidiary of a state-owned tourism holding company.

The park's centerpiece is a large lake featuring a detailed miniature of the Indonesian archipelago. Surrounding this water feature are 33 provincial pavilions, each showcasing vernacular architecture, such as the Javanese Joglo or the Minang Rumah Gadang. These pavilions act as cultural hubs, displaying traditional costumes, ethnographic artifacts, and hosting dance performances. The site also functions as a symbol of religious harmony, housing seven places of worship, including a Balinese Hindu temple and a space for inter-faith exchange.

Following a major revitalization inaugurated in September 2023, the park has shifted toward an environmentally friendly design. The site now consists of 70% green space and has been designated a low-emission zone, prohibiting personal cars and motorcycles in favor of electric microbuses and bicycles. This modernization effort, which cost IDR 1.7 trillion plus an additional IDR 200 billion, also introduced the 'Tirta Cerita' attraction. This nightly show uses dancing fountains, water screens, and up to 300 drones to project Indonesian folklore, marking the park's evolution from a static cultural display into a high-tech educational destination.
