In short: For decades, Bruce Springsteen kept his most experimental recordings hidden, claiming they weren't 'essential.' It took a global pandemic for the rock icon to exhume these archives, transforming years of private sessions into seven distinct thematic albums that redefine his musical evolution.

Released on June 27, 2025, Tracks II: The Lost Albums serves as a massive follow-up to Springsteen's 1998 box set. While the first collection was a curated selection of highlights, this sequel contains 83 songs—74 of which were previously unheard. These recordings span a thirty-five-year period from 1983 to 2018, offering a comprehensive look at the artist's creative output during some of his most prolific and private eras.

Springsteen revealed in a 2017 interview that he had avoided releasing these works because they lacked a sense of necessity. However, the COVID-19 pandemic prompted him to revisit his vault specifically to move past the narrative of his 'lost 90s.' The collection is organized into seven thematic albums, ranging from the lo-fi LA Garage Sessions '83 (recorded between Nebraska and Born in the U.S.A.) to cinematic soundscapes like Twilight Hours and Faithless, which was originally intended as a soundtrack for a spiritual Western film that never came to fruition.

The project received universal acclaim with a 95 Metacritic score and won a Grammy for Best Recording Package in 2026. It also includes unique production credits involving figures like Ron Aniello, Chuck Plotkin, and Jon Landau. Regarding future plans, Springsteen indicated that a third collection titled Tracks III might arrive during the upcoming three-year period; this release intends to mirror the initial box set's style by including diverse career highlights instead of full records.
