In short: Before they became global icons of reggaeton, Zion and Lennox were two friends from Carolina, Puerto Rico, carving a unique path. By shifting away from the explicit, graphic lyrics common in the underground scene, they introduced a commercial sensibility that helped propel the genre to worldwide popularity.

Félix Ortiz, known as Zion, and Gabriel Pizarro, known as Lennox, first met in 1992 while living in the same neighborhood. Their shared passion for music evolved into a professional partnership by 2000, though they did not officially record a theme until 2001. Their rise to prominence was gradual, built through guest appearances on influential compilation albums like 2003's Desafío, produced by Luny Tunes and Noriega. These early efforts, alongside tracks like 'Me Pones Tensión', established their reputation before they released their debut studio album, Motivando a la Yal, in 2004.

The duo was instrumental in refining the sound of reggaeton. While the underground scene was defined by raw, explicit themes, Zion and Lennox consciously opted for a more accessible, commercial style. This strategic pivot allowed them to reach broader audiences, eventually leading to massive collaborations and chart success. Their 2016 album, Motivan2, featured heavyweights like J Balvin, Nicky Jam, and Daddy Yankee. Notably, the music video for their song 'Otra Vez', featuring J Balvin, surpassed 1.0 billion views on YouTube by July 2020.

Their career was marked by periods of both intense collaboration and individual pursuit. After initial success, the duo faced industry pressures that led them to explore solo projects, with Zion founding Baby Records and Lennox managing his own label, Toma Enterprise. Despite these shifts, they reunited for tours and further albums, including a stint with Pina Records and a later exclusive deal with Warner Music Latina in December 2015. However, the partnership officially concluded on November 13, 2024, when it was announced that the duo would disband to allow Zion to focus on personal projects.
