A major turning point occurred for this joint venture on 1 July 2022, as Brian J. Bruess took over the dual presidency of these two entities for the first time. This followed a period of transitional leadership and a long history of cooperation that began with joint evening classes in 1955. Today, the institutions share a faculty of approximately 300 professors, with 85% being full-time, permanent appointees. This model ensures that while the campuses remain distinct, the academic rigor and resources are integrated.
The impact of this collaborative model is reflected in student outcomes and community engagement. The institutions report that 95% of students receive financial aid and 90% of graduates finish their degrees within four years. Beyond the classroom, the partnership supports diverse initiatives, from hosting the Upper Midwest Association for Campus Sustainability to fostering entrepreneurial success, such as a recent SJU graduate's venture winning a regional final of the 2026 Startup World Cup.
