Why navigation relies on the three-digit bearing system
In short: Understanding how to navigate a physical space requires more than just knowing left from right. This video explains the mathematical convention of bearings, showing how directions are standardized into precise three-digit measurements.
Bearings provide a consistent method for describing direction by measuring angles clockwise from North. In this system, North is assigned the values of 000° and 360°.
To maintain a standard format, any angle less than 100° must be written with leading zeros to ensure it remains a three-digit figure. This convention ensures clarity in navigation and geometry.
