Is reality a matter of probability or physical waves?

The Quantum Wavefunction Explained · 5:40 · Video: Domain of Science · Watch at the source

In short: Everything in our universe is composed of particles described by quantum wavefunctions. This video explores what these functions actually represent, whether they are physically real, and how they mirror the waves we see in everyday life.

The wavefunction is a mathematical quantity that describes the wave characteristics of a particle. Rather than defining an exact location, its value at any specific point in space and time relates to the likelihood of finding a particle there.

At the heart of this field is the Schrödinger equation, developed by Erwin Schrödinger in 1926. Much like Newton’s laws govern classical mechanics, this equation governs submicroscopic phenomena. It predicts how probability waves are altered by external forces and was famously validated by accurately predicting the properties of the hydrogen atom.
