How to transform a raw red oak slab into a polished bar top

Bar Top | Build It | Ask This Old House · 10:30 · Video: This Old House · Watch at the source

In short: Watch general contractor Tom Silva and carpenter Nathan Gilbert convert a live-edge red oak slab from a Christmas tree farm into a finished piece of furniture.

The process begins by using a wire wheel to strip away loose wood and punk from the live edge. The team then employs a belt sander for smoothing before Tom Silva utilizes a homemade jig to route the slab flat.

While the slab is being prepared, Nathan Gilbert constructs the legs. The project concludes with the assembly of the table, followed by an oil treatment and a final polish.
