In short: Engineered by Alstom, the Euroduplex is a third-generation double-decker train designed to navigate the complex electrical and signaling standards of Europe. Beyond its success on French and international rails, a modified version became the first high-speed train to operate in Africa, setting a continental speed record in the process.

The Euroduplex, also known as the TGV 2N2, represents a significant evolution of the TGV Duplex platform. Designed for interoperability, these trains feature advanced systems capable of handling various electrification and signaling standards across European borders. The fleet is highly specialized, with variants like the 3UA, 3UH, and 3UF configured for specific international and domestic routes, including services connecting France to Germany, Switzerland, and Spain. The 3UFC variant, branded as Océane, introduced a refined interior design and a 10% increase in capacity, achieved by reconfiguring the train's multi-class layout.

In 2010, the Moroccan national railway company, ONCF, ordered 14 Euroduplex sets for the Kenitra–Tangier high-speed line. These trains were specifically adapted to withstand local climatic and environmental conditions, featuring a unique seating configuration that includes two first-class carriages and five second-class carriages. Despite facing delays due to land acquisition challenges, the project reached a milestone in May 2018 when a test train achieved a speed of 357 km/h, establishing a new rail speed record for Africa. The service, officially named Al Boraq, was inaugurated by King Mohammed VI and President Emmanuel Macron.

The development of the Euroduplex fleet has been continuous since its commercial debut in December 2011. SNCF has expanded its fleet through multiple orders, including a significant procurement in 2017 to support intercity lines. By April 2023, the total fleet size reached 122 trainsets. These trains incorporate modern passenger amenities, such as USB sockets, rotating seats, and dynamic light displays that provide real-time route and car information. Maintenance for the Moroccan fleet is centralized at a 14-hectare facility in Tangier-Moghogha, operated through a partnership between ONCF and SNCF.
